Stephen Wicks Turns Existential Anxiety Into Rock on “The Doomsday Clock”

Stephen Wicks is preparing to release his fifth single, “The Doomsday Clock (85 Seconds to Midnight),” a rock track that confronts some of the most urgent fears facing modern society. The song draws inspiration from the symbolic Doomsday Clock published by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

The track reflects concerns around climate change, nuclear proliferation, artificial intelligence and geopolitical instability. Its title refers to the 2026 Doomsday Clock setting of 85 seconds to midnight, presented as the closest humanity has ever been to symbolic catastrophe.

Wicks, a former corporate executive and property entrepreneur, has reinvented himself as a singer-songwriter at the age of 74. His move from boardrooms to recording studios underlines the idea that creative ambition can arrive at any stage of life.

Produced by George Shilling, known for work with Blur, Primal Scream and Steve Winwood, the single also features lead guitar from Australian guitarist Stefan Hauk. An official music video will accompany the release, visually exploring the ticking clock and the fragility of the world at risk.
